At the United Nations Sustainable Summit on September 25, 2015, the 2030 agenda for sustainable development was adopted as a “Plan of action for people, planet and prosperity”. The agenda includes a set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)* to end poverty, combat inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change by 2030 with an integrated and comprehensive vision that depends on each of its elements to succeed as a whole. This includes the fourth goal in the agenda “SDG 4” which we adopt in its entirety at Abjad. SDG 4 aims to “ensure an inclusive, quality education and enhance lifelong learning opportunities for all”.

Our Steps to Achieve These Goals

With our “Read” and “Comprehend” programs, we help girls and boys complete free, equitable, and quality primary education for free, which leads to effective educational outcomes (SDG 4.1)

With our “Read” program, we help girls and boys get quality early childhood development, child-care, and pre-primary education so that they are ready for primary  ducation (SDG 4.2)

With our “Impact” program, we help young women and men who have relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, to get employment and to become  entrepreneurs (SDG 4.4)

In our “Impact” program, we help increase the number of highly qualified female and male teachers through training and  specialized courses in the fields of education, protection, and administration. We also seek to develop partnerships for this goal (SDG 4.c)

Empower women and girls in all of our programs and ensure equal access to all levels of education and quality training for vulnerable groups, including people with special needs, host communities, and children in vulnerable environments (SDG 4.5, 5 & 10)

Ensure that everyone involved in Abjad has the knowledge and skills to promote sustainable development from host communities, including students and staff. This is achieved through education for: sustainable development, human rights, gender equality, and also via the promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship, and an appreciation for cultural diversity (SDG 4.7 & 16)

Build educational facilities that are suitable for children with special needs, sensitive to gender  differences, and which provide a safe, non-violent, inclusive, and effective learning environment for all (SDG 4.a)

Develop and revitalize effective partnerships directly related to the goals of sustainable development with various civic activities and bodies, and rely on these goals as a basis for allying with civil organizations to advocate for achieving them, and to secure various means of support in this context (SDG 17).
